What happens when you let friends borrow your camera?  You end up with photos of a dog licking somebody’s baggy jeans butt.  I don’t think the composition was intentional, but it was too funny to leave out.  In all fairness he also got a few nice cowboy/cowgirl couples.

Calgary’s firefighters are celebrating their 125th anniversary this year and brought along one of their antique trucks.  Check out firefighter Ken from 1202 department at the top of a huge (150+ foot) ladder taking photos of the crowd.  Always fun to take pics of other people taking pics.

A highlight of George Canyon’s performance was the song “I Want You To Live.”  He wrote this song the military and their families.  I noticed a man and a woman in their camouflage watching, obviously touched by the song.  Another woman in the crowd hugged the female soldier and chatted with her.

Many pancake breakfasts provide live music to entertain folks while they wait in line and eat.  George Canyon was the headliner this morning.  Of course, I took some photos to share with you.  I like the ones with motion blur the best.

Calgary has a tradition of free pancake breakfasts during the Stampede.  Today was the 50th Annual Chinook Centre Stampede Breakfast.  It is the largest one but this was the first year I attended.  According to Herald journalist Val Fortney, they prepared 1,800 kilograms of Spolumbo’s sausage, 6,000 litres of coffee and 1,500 kilograms of pancake batter to feed 60,000 people.  Good thing Calgary has an abundance of volunteers and has the pancake breakfast down to an art.

(20100701)  Musician Wil put on an energetic show in Calgary for Canada Day (July 1, 2010.)  This was my first exposure to Wil and I enjoyed his performance.  Catch him if you have the opportunity.

Here’s my favourite shot with the lit fog appearing as if it were exhaust off his steaming guitar.
